Georges Yao

Georges Yao, born on March 18, 1963, in Kokumbo, Côte d'Ivoire, is a notable artist renowned for his distinct style in painting. Yao embarked on his artistic journey from a young age, sketching and creating graffiti during his schooling at Kokumbo Public Primary School and later at Pascal College in Marcory, Abidjan.

His passion for painting led him to study under Ghanaian painter Wisdom Benoit from 1985 to 1990, while also working various jobs at the Abidjan airport.Yao's artistic achievements include being a laureate at the SIFCOM foundation's young talent discovery competition in 1991 and 1995, where his unique approach to painting earned him significant recognition.

His works, characterized by a delicate perturbation of the image and an innovative use of color and form, focus on landscapes and everyday life. He skillfully uses black to outline subjects, bringing them to life against a dynamic backdrop of warm and cold colors, creating a powerful visual dialogue.

Since 1993, Yao has been based in his studio in Grand-Bassam, where he also serves as the president of the Maison des Artistes Plasticiens.
