Koffi Mathurin TANOH, originally from Bondoukou in the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, is a painter celebrated for his multidimensional style, which spans figurative, abstract, and cubism. Born into a modest family, TANOH's artistic journey began in childhood, showing early signs of a profound love for beauty and an uncommon aesthetic in his creations. Despite dropping out of secondary school to work in various roles, including at a palm oil production company and as a security agent, his passion for art remained undimmed.
His artistic potential was recognized by a traveling medicine vendor, who encouraged him to formally pursue art. After succeeding in the entrance exam at the Technical Center for Applied Arts in Bingerville, he completed a three-year training program. Now based at the Maison des Artistes in Grand-Bassam for over 25 years, TANOH has produced nearly a thousand works, with over 600 sold.
TANOH's paintings reflect his deep sensitivity and often explore themes of kindness, the wonders of life, women, hope, unity, marriage, and respect. He also draws inspiration from the silence and tranquility of the night, creating works that capture the beauty of both rural and urban landscapes, as well as the history and legends of his country and Africa.
At 55, a devoted father of four, TANOH aims to share his art with a global audience, continuing to impact the art world with his rich, expressive works. His career highlights include winning the 1st Prize at the National Street Arts Festival of Grand-Bassam in 2001 and receiving participation prizes at the PANAFCOM and KALIMBA contests in 2000 and 1999, respectively.
